Bismarck-Henning Elementary School

A reminder that we will be holding our Pie the Principal event tomorrow at 1:30. A total of 57 students raised $100 or more in donations and get the opportunity to Pie Mr. Click in the face. If the weather conditions are appropriate, we will be holding the pie throwing on the blacktop by our playground. We will be moving the event into our gymnasium if the weather is too cold and rainy to be outdoors. Since the level of generosity from our community was so incredible, we want to invite all of our friends and families to watch. Parking will be along Chicago heading north of the school. Please feel welcome to come and enjoy seeing Mr. Click get covered in pie. If you are attending and plan to take your student home with you afterwards, please make sure to either send a note with your student or call into our office in the morning. It is important that we be aware of any changes for your child's dismissal to guarantee we get them where they should be. Kids had a blast with our Read Across America Day. We started our day with Mr. Abbed making a special appearance to read books to kids in the gym. We ended our day with retired educator and author, Dorene Strebing, sharing the steps she's taken to create her stories as well as sharing one of her books with students. Throughout the day students engaged with stories with their teachers, special guests, and online. Hopefully everyone created a list of books they'd like to read themselves from what they saw today.

Exciting news! BHES will be hosting a Grandparents Day on April 14! Each grade level will host their grandparents at an assigned time. Students will sing a few songs and make a craft with their grandparents. We will have a space for grandparents to wait between grandchildren if they are attending for multiple students. *If your student does not have a grandparent available, please let us know and we can find a staff member to fill in! At our most recent Fuzzy Friday teachers and students participated in some fun games. Student worked to stack cups in order as a class. Teachers tried to see how many cotton balls they could scoop up while blindfolded. Everyone had a blast as we took time to celebrate our character and achievements in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades.

Mrs. Miethe's class won the spirit stick. Mrs. Farrell's class won the Chow Hall Challenge. Colby is visiting Mrs. Powell's classroom because of their outstanding behavior around the school. Liquid water turns into ice once the temperature gets below 32 degrees fahrenheit. Ice has a couple of weird properties. When most other liquids freeze the frozen version usually takes up lesson space, but with ice it take up more space than when it was melted. We are in our two days of the Kids Heart Challenge event to help educate our students about a healthy lifestyle and to help raise donations to help make a difference. This event ends tomorrow. A monkey will peel its banana from the bottom which actually ends up being easier and will not smash the end as much as using the top. The oils inside of a banana have been found to help with inflammation and itching from insect bites. Bananas are also a very healthy treat because they contain fiber, potassium, vitamin B, vitamin C, and several antioxidants.

Liquid water turns into ice once the temperature gets below 32 degrees fahrenheit. Ice has a couple of weird properties. When most other liquids freeze the frozen version usually takes up lesson space, but with ice it take up more space than when it was melted. Ice is also less dense than liquid water and that is why it floats in your glass. That seems pretty weird because you rarely see solid things float unless it is something like boat. Reminder! If your student will not be attending school for the day, please make sure you call the office and let us know. Please call us by 9am each day your student is absent. (A ClassDojo message is not enough since those sometimes go unread until later in the day). We all at BHES are so happy to see everyone come to school each day.
