We will be having a 1:00 student dismissal on Tuesday for any community, students, and staff who are interested in going to the game to be able to make it before first pitch. Our 3rd and 4th grade students will continue testing for the IAR today and will test through April 3rd. Parents, As most of you probably know, our former BHHS Alumni Dylan Dodd (Class of 2016), will be the starting pitcher for the Atlanta Braves against the St. Louis Cardinals, Tuesday, April 4, 2023 in St. Louis at 6:45pm. We have numerous Elementary, Junior High and High School staff members who plan to attend the game with a possibility of around 90 high school students. The district will be transporting the high school students who want to ride the fan bus to and from the game. There is no way for us to get the students home after school, then leave and try to get to the game in time unless we have a 1:00pm dismissal. With that being said, the plan is to have a 1:00pm dismissal for next Tuesday, April 4th. This is a special time for all Blue Devils fans and we are excited that so many people want to make the trip to St. Louis to support Dylan. Respectfully,

The St. Louis Cardinals have offered a group rate for the Blue Devil Community for Dylan Dodd’s opening debut on Tuesday, April 4th. Tickets are on the first level down the 3rd base line. Tickets are $14/each cash only. They can be purchased in the BHRA office Thursday and Friday from 7am-5pm and on Saturday from 8:30am-10:30am. Tickets will be delivered digitally to the email address you provide us. A fan bus is available for BHRA students only, but they must purchase their ticket through BHRA and turn in their permission slip.

Manatees mainly live in shallow waters and mainly feed on sea grass, leaves, and algae. Even though they only eat plants they spend half of their day eating which helps them get up to their typical weight of 1,200 pounds. Although they are quite large ocean mammals, all the species are at high risk of extinction. The largest threats to manatees comes from boat collisions, hunting, habitat loss, and toxic water. A reminder that we will be holding our Pie the Principal event tomorrow at 1:30. A total of 57 students raised $100 or more in donations and get the opportunity to Pie Mr. Click in the face. If the weather conditions are appropriate, we will be holding the pie throwing on the blacktop by our playground. We will be moving the event into our gymnasium if the weather is too cold and rainy to be outdoors. Since the level of generosity from our community was so incredible, we want to invite all of our friends and families to watch. Parking will be along Chicago heading north of the school. Please feel welcome to come and enjoy seeing Mr. Click get covered in pie. If you are attending and plan to take your student home with you afterwards, please make sure to either send a note with your student or call into our office in the morning. It is important that we be aware of any changes for your child's dismissal to guarantee we get them where they should be. Kids had a blast with our Read Across America Day. We started our day with Mr. Abbed making a special appearance to read books to kids in the gym. We ended our day with retired educator and author, Dorene Strebing, sharing the steps she's taken to create her stories as well as sharing one of her books with students. Throughout the day students engaged with stories with their teachers, special guests, and online. Hopefully everyone created a list of books they'd like to read themselves from what they saw today.

Exciting news! BHES will be hosting a Grandparents Day on April 14! Each grade level will host their grandparents at an assigned time. Students will sing a few songs and make a craft with their grandparents. We will have a space for grandparents to wait between grandchildren if they are attending for multiple students. *If your student does not have a grandparent available, please let us know and we can find a staff member to fill in! We ended our Kids Heart Challenge on Friday. In total we raised $10,522.45 for the American Heart Association. Fifty-six kids raised $100 or more and get the chance to pie me. We will have our face pieing event on March 16th at the end of the school day. The class that earned the Spirit Stick for best gym behavior in the morning today was Mrs. K. Douglass’s class! They can grow to be over 100 feet long which is longer than 2 school bus. A blue whale weighs over 200 tons which is not much of a problem since they float in the ocean all day. The tongue of a blue whale is larger than an elephant and its heart is large than a car. There were a few dinosaur species that grew longer than a blue whale, but none ever would have weighed as much. Reminder!
