BHES celebrated the careers of two beloved teachers on the last day of school! Mrs. Farrell and Mrs. Miller have impacted the lives of our students and we are so grateful they both spent the majority of their careers in our building. We have some pretty big shoes to fill! Happy retirement, Mrs. Farrell and Mrs. Miller!

Today’s fun fact is: Did you know that salt water taffy was invented 1883 in Atlantic City, New Jersey? Candymakers make this taffy using boiled sugar and butter. They then have to stretch and pull it until to becomes a chewy consistency and can be cut into the right size. At one time stores offered penny candy and taffy was one of those common candies people could get so cheaply. Some of the most popular flavors of taffy include banana, birthday cake, peppermint, cotton candy, licorice, and strawberry.

Today’s fun fact is: Did you know that there area 2,700 different types of tropical fish in Minecraft? Other fish you can find in the wild in Minecraft are cod, salmon, and pufferfish. There are a large number of animals that can be found across the worlds of Minecraft with some of the most popular being pigs, axolotl, ocelot, cows, and chickens. You can’t tame all the animals but a player can tame cats, donkeys, llamas, horses, parrots, and wolves. Although not considered an animal in Minecraft, the dangerous creeper mobs actually were originally supposed to be pigs.

Today’s fun fact is: Do you know that watermelons are 92% water? Early explorers would use empty watermelons as canteens to carry their water. Although most of us only eat the red flesh of a watermelon you can eat the rind as well, even though it would be a bit tougher. The first time humans grew and harvested watermelons was over 5,000 years ago in Egypt. According to the Guinness Book of World Records the largest watermelon ever weighed over 350 pounds.

We are getting so close to being able to add another instructor and more teenage interns for our week at Camp Invention (June 26-30)! Use the link https://mbsy.co/6ngPMB to save $30, along with the codes SIBLOVE30 to save $30 off an additional sibling, SIBLOVE40 to save $40 off a third sibling, and ALUMNI25 to save $25 if you've attended Camp before (all of these have no expiration date but can't be stacked)!

Construction on the new football field is progressing and we're so excited!
PLEASE stay off the football field until construction is complete. The crew is working hard at getting everything perfectly level. Please talk to your kiddos about staying off the field as well. Even the smallest footsteps leave imprints that must be fixed before they continue. Every time they have to relevel, it sets us back.
We can't wait to see you under the lights this fall!

Today’s fun fact is: Did you know that over a billion pairs of running shoes are sold worldwide each year? Running while listening to music can increase your performance by 15%. The oldest person to have ever finished a marathon was 100 years old. The person actually didn’t start running until he was 89. It takes 200 muscles to take a step when you run. You will burn over 100 calories while you are running a 10 minute mile pace.

Today’s fun fact is: Did you know that ⅔ of the world’s rainforests are located in the Amazon Rainforest? Scientists think that the Amazon contains 2.5 million different species of insects. Half of all the animals that live in the rainforest live in the canopy. The Amazon River that runs through the rainforest is the second longest river in the world but carries the more water than any other river. The rainforest is so thick that when it rains it can take ten minutes for the rain drops to make it from the top of the trees to the ground.

Today’s fun fact is: Did you know that shrimp are decapod crustaceans? Being a decapod means that they have 10 pairs of walking legs and being a crustacean means they have no backbone and a hard shell on the outside of their body. Sometimes shrimp are also called prawns, but there is actual no difference between the two. We catch and eat shrimp by baking them, boiling them, frying them, grilling them, and even eating them raw. It is estimated that the average American eats 4 pounds of shrimp each year.

Today’s fun fact is: Did you know that nine is the largest single digit number in our counting system? The sum of the digits of any multiple of nine will equal nine. If you rearrange the digits of any number divisible by nine it will still be divisible by nine. If you take an existing number and put a nine into it, it will make it into a number divisible by 9. September is the 9th month and is the only month that has the number of letters equal to its number as a month
