Good morning
We are so excited to begin day 2 of our school year. Today is Friday August 18th
Monday is Picture Day, make sure to send any envelopes/forms for pictures in with your students to help keep classes and kids organized.
Everyone will be using Chromebooks at school and 2nd, 3rd, 4th grade get to take theirs home. Our older students need to remember to charge their computers at home and then bring them back each day. Every Chromebook has at least three tags on it. You need to keep all of those tags on your computer to help me keep track of whose it is and where it goes.
If you worked on completing the Summer Reading Challenge, make sure to get the sheet turned into your teacher so we can reward students with ice cream next Friday the 25th.
Please make sure you give any notes or letters from home to your teacher so we can make sure you get what you need and get home safely at the end of the day.

Fun Fact
Did you know that students your age should be getting around 10 hours of slee each night. Getting the right amount of sleep helps your brain to remember things and will help you concentrate during the day.
Our parents club is always looking for more participation. If you are interesting in learning more about what they do or about joining, please check out the following link.Parent’s Club link(https://www.facebook.com/groups/1455037061388924)
Reminder! If your student will not be attending school for the day, please make sure you call the office and let us know. Please call us by 9am each day your student is absent. (A ClassDojo message is not enough since those sometimes go unread until later in the day).
We all at BHES are so happy to see everyone come to school each day. Myself and all the teachers care about you all and want to make every day as awesome as we can. We're here to help you have fun, to learn, and to grow. We're here to help you be safe, be healthy, and be happy.

Tomorrow we officially begin the 2023-2024 school year and we are excited to see our BHES students! We have a normal dismissal schedule tomorrow. Doors for students will open at 7:50 and our day of learning kicks off at 8:05. Any students arriving after 8:10 will need to be signed in at the office and will be considered tardy. We will dismiss any car rider and walking students at 2:40 and then all bus students will be dismissed at 2:45. Please remember to always call the office about any absences or tardies before school starts to help us be aware of where our students are. Also, we serve breakfast at arrival so help you student remember if you plan on them eating here at school to stop by the cafeteria for food. We are looking forward to another exciting and fun filled year at the elementary school!

Tomorrow night is our annual BHES Kindergarten Orientation and All-school Open House. Kindergarten Orientation will start at 5:00 in each teacher's classroom. Students will practice riding a bus and teachers will provide families with an overview of what the school year will be like. The Open House for Preschool, First, Second, Third, and Fourth grade students will begin at 6:00 and end around 7:00. You are welcome to come and go as you please and are highly encouraged to drop off you school supplies in your classroom, so you won't need to worry about them on the first day of school. We're excited to see you all tomorrow and to get the new school year started!

Just a reminder to leave your pets at home when coming to a Blue Devil event.
Thank you for your cooperation!

It's almost time for school! Mrs. Nixon and Mrs. Foster are taking a few minutes to read before the school year starts. I would say that Harry Potter is a book about a super hero, wouldn't you? And we know lots of friends who love the wizarding world of Harry Potter!
How is your reading challenge going? Don't forget to mark off the challenges as you complete them, and email acarpenter@bismarck.k12.il.us three pictures of you completing challenges of your choice. Turn in the completed piece of paper when you return to school and you'll receive a surprise! (No worries if you have misplaced your handout. You can write them on paper and turn that in!)
Here are the challenges, as a reminder:
Read under a tree
Read a non-fiction book
Read a book from the library
Read for an hour straight
Read a mystery
Read at the park
Read to a stuffed animal
Read an old favorite
Read before breakfast
Read in the bathtub
Read in your closet
Read out loud
Read a book you're unsure of
Read late at night
Read about animals or nature
Read a book your friend likes
Read under a blanket fort
Read a book about superheroes
Read under the stars
Read a newspaper or magazine

Hello BHES students! Mrs. Whitt is spending some time reading late at night. It just so happens that she's also reading outside under the stars!

Hello BHES students! Mrs. Warren and her daughter are enjoying some time outside reading under a tree. I wonder if one of those books is a non-fiction book, and if they read for an hour straight?

Good afternoon,
I wanted to send a reminder that Bismarck-Henning Elementary School will be holding our Open House on Wednesday August 16th.
Kindergarten Orientation will start at 5:00 in each teacher's classroom. The district dates to remember list states it starts at 5:30, but we have decided to move it up half an hour to give teachers and families more time to get to know each other. Students will practice riding a bus and teachers will provide families with an overview of what the school year will be like.
The Open House for Preschool, First, Second, Third, and Fourth grade students will begin at 6:00 and end around 7:00. Feel free to come as you please to meet your teachers for the year, see your classroom, drop off you school supplies, and tour around the building. Can't wait to see everyone and get the new school year started!

Class lists for the coming school year are posted on the main entrance doors. Come stop by and see who your teacher will be!

Hello BHES students! Miss Jane is enjoying some time outside reading to a stuffed animal. I wonder if it's also a book about animals and if her friend Calvin likes it, too!
